Translate Research into a Visual Story
Develop a visual approach that gives historical material context and makes the connection between policy decisions and people’s lives easier to follow.
Art/Creative Direction
Florida Policy Institute
Florida Policy Institute makes complex policy issues accessible to the people and communities they affect. Across the Florida Timeline and Working Floridians Tax Rebate initiatives, the challenge was to translate research into clear, engaging experiences: connecting policy history with its effects today and making the case for a proposed state Earned Income Tax Credit relevant at the county level.
For the Florida Timeline, we connected visual storytelling with an explorable timeline. Collage, archival imagery, illustration, bold typography, and recurring graphic motifs established a shared language across the website and animation. The video introduces the larger story, while topic-based timelines invite deeper exploration. For Working Floridians Tax Rebate, Hatcher paired a dedicated microsite with 67 county-level one-pagers, bringing the policy story into a local context.
The Working Floridians Tax Rebate initiative supported awareness and advocacy for a proposed state Earned Income Tax Credit. Alongside the microsite, Hatcher developed 67 county-level one-pagers to support EITC advocacy across Florida. Together, these digital and print materials extended FPI’s policy communications from a statewide platform to individual counties.

The Approach
Develop a visual approach that gives historical material context and makes the connection between policy decisions and people’s lives easier to follow.
Use policy topics, chronological event cards, and links to detailed accounts to support both an initial overview and deeper exploration.
Carry the visual language through sketches, storyboard development, animation, and the website so that the introduction and interactive experience feel connected.

The Result
The FPI work brought policy research into complementary digital, motion, and print formats. The Florida Timeline website and introductory video offer a visual introduction and a structured resource for exploring policy history. The Working Floridians Tax Rebate microsite and 67 county-level one-pagers supported public awareness and county-level advocacy for the proposed tax credit. The Timeline initiative launched in October 2022 and continues to develop under FPI; the website screenshots shown here capture the live site in October 2026.
