Challenge

Making Standards Useful in the Classroom needed a cover that could speak to teachers working with different standards and measures.

Creative Strategy

The design used an abstract approach to keep the book relevant across classrooms. Its visual concept needed to suggest clarity and practical application without tying the resource to a single subject or standards system.

My Role

Book Design, including cover and interior sample-chapter design.

Collaborators

Creative Direction: Gary Bloom. ASCD Creative.

The Approach

Insight into ideas.
Ideas into experience.

Find the Common Idea

Focus on making standards usable rather than illustrating one specific standard.

Keep the Cover Broadly Relevant

Use abstraction to connect with educators across subjects and grade levels.

Develop the Reading System

Extend the cover direction into an interior sample chapter for the 8.5 × 11 format.
